Do you ‘member Ore ga Suki na no ha Imoto Dakedo Imoto ja nai (My Sister, My Writer)? It aired a long time ago, back in October, so I’ll forgive you for forgetting.
The series became a meme during the fall 2018 season, and for all of the wrong reasons! Studio NAZ was in over their heads as they aired episodes with janky animation and off-model designs — a true crime an ecchi series. Fans treated My Sister, My Writer as a punching bag and couldn’t wait to share the QUALITY screencaps every week.
However, it wasn’t a fun time for the staff. In fact, the tight budget and deadline meant that Studio NAZ never had much time to correct the animation issues. In fact, they even publically cried for help in the ending credits, with one episode bluntly saying “We’re in serious trouble.”

Despite all of the trouble, the anime managed to air all 10 episodes and is getting a Blu-ray release. Most studios revise any animation flaws during the TV run — but that’s not this anime’s style.
According to a few Japanese fans, not much was improved. In fact, the only major change is switching up the color scheme for some backgrounds while the derpy character designs are still intact.
Left is the Blu-ray version and right is the TV broadcast version.
It’s not like this is Studio NAZ’s first anime. They’ve previously worked on Hamatora: The Animation, DRAMAtical Murder, My First Girlfriend is a Gal, and Angolmois: Record of Mongol Invasion. While not world-beaters, they never had the same issues found in My Sister, My Writer.
Better to just move on from this mistake and pretend it never happened.
