Fashion shows are home to both stylish and bizarre clothing designs, but the latest Gucci line has people talking.
Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele said the show’s theme was influenced by Donna Haraway’s 1984 “A Cyborg Manifesto” essay. This meant severed heads, ’80s geek-chic, and granny ware!
In the midst of the unique fashion choices was a manga-inspired sweater.
Gucci didn’t reveal the sweater’s inspiration, but the character looks a bit like Marie Antoinette from The Rose of Versailles.
As random as it seems, fashion shows are no stranger to having anime and manga-themed designs. Last year, Comme des Garcon dedicated their show to legendary artist Macoto Takahashi.
In 2014, Comme des Garcon hired a model who looked suspiciously like JoJo Bizarre Adventure‘s Kakyoin.
In 2016, Louis Vuitton strutted out designs based on Sailor Moon, Ghost in the Shell, Death Note, and Neon Genesis Evangelion.
And who can forget Victoria’s Secret and their Rei plugsuit?
