The 9 Most Anticipated Anime of Summer 2017

Let’s look ahead at some of the most anticipated anime of the Summer 2017 season! The season will have a variety of action, slice of life, and comedy anime. Fans of 2 cour anime will have their plates full of previous Spring anime, and while Summer is light on sequels, there are plenty of shows to look forward to.

Here are some anime to keep an eye on once Summer arrives!

1Fate/Apocrypha

Fate/Apocrypha will be the latest anime in the stories Fate franchise. Apocypha is based on a light novel (similar to Fate/Zero) and takes place in a parallel world to the one in Fate/stay night. Two factions with seven mages wage a war to possess The Holy Grail, with The Holy Grail itself summoning a Ruler-class servant to monitor the war.

The only caveat is that Fate/Apocrypha will stream on Netflix, so fans outside of Japan will have to wait a season before watching it.

2Owarimonogatari 2nd Season

Are you ready for more Monogatari action? Owarimonogatari 2nd Season will adapt the “Mayoi Hell,” “Hitagi Rendezvous,” and “Ougi Dark” arcs from the light novel. It’s still unconfirmed for an anime, but Zokuowarimonogatari will be the last canon light novel to be adapted after Owarimonogatari 2nd Season.

3Ballroom e Youkoso (Welcome to the Ballroom)

Welcome to the Ballroom is set to bring the exciting world of competitive ballroom dancing to anime fans! It follows a bullied boy named Tatara who is taken to a dance studio due to a misunderstanding. After taking a trial lesson paired with a classmate, Tatara decides to go all in as a way to build his confidence.

4Katsugeki/Touken Ranbu

Katsugeki/Touken Ranbu is ufotable’s latest anime project and it will be an action-oriented adaptation of the hit bishounen game.

5New Game!!

New Game! was a surprise hit during the Summer 2016 season and it’s coming back a year later! It’ll continue Aoba’s journey to becoming a great video game designer while focusing the difficult (and fun) lives of her co-workers at Eagle Jump.

6NTR: Netsuzou Trap

I think NTR: Netsuzou Trap has a chance to be the most divisive anime for next season. It centers around two female childhood friends who try to keep their lesbian romantic relationship a secret from their boyfriends. If that doesn’t get you, the series will cover topics of abuse, emotional manipulation, and deceit.

7Kakegurui -Compulsive Gambler-

Kakegurui -Compulsive Gambler- can be a sleeper hit. It’s a psychological gambling series that takes place in a prestigious academy. Unlike traditional schools, this place bases everything on a student’s ability to gamble. Mysterious transfer student Yumeko Jabami enters the academy with the sole goal of shake things up and showing her classmates “real gambling.”

8Senki Zesshou Symphogear AXZ

Symphogear AXZ will be the anime’s fourth season! If you haven’t checked the series out before, it’s a blend of over-the-top action, magical girls, and idols. Symphogear is known for having some of the smoothest looking fights, so action fans will have a lot to look forward to.

9Saiyuki Reload Blast

It has been 13 years since Saiyuki‘s last TV anime (6 if we count OVAs). Saiyuki Reload Blast is going to be based on the third manga series, so it may be confusing for fans jumping in for the first time. However, long time fans of the classic action series will finally get to see the story progress!
