‘Star Wars’ is Getting an Anime-Inspired Series this Fall

Disney is blending anime and Star Wars with their latest animated series.

Star Wars Resistance

Star Wars Resistance is going to be a high-flying adventure that follows Kazuda Xiono, a young pilot tasked with spying on the First Order. The series is set before Star Wars: The Force Awakens and may give hints on how the First Order grew in power.

While new characters are expected, it’s been revealed that Xiono will interact with older characters too. Fan-favorites BB-8, Poe Dameron, and Captain Phasma will appear in the series. As a sweetener, actors Oscar Isaac (Poe) and Gwendoline Christie (Phasma) will reprise their roles.

The staff of Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels are creating Resistance. Series creator Dave Filoni stated, “The idea for Star Wars Resistance came out of my interest in World War II aircraft and fighter pilots.”

Star Wars
Star Wars has had official manga in the past, but Resistance is the first anime-related series in the franchise.

Filoni also commented, “There’s a long history of high-speed racing in Star Wars, and I think we’ve captured that sense of excitement in an anime-inspired style, which is something the entire team has been wanting to do for a long time.” The previous two Star Wars animated series has been in CGI.

Star Wars Resistance will debut on the Disney Channel this fall.
