Satomi Akesaka Leaves Music Behind Due to Hearing Loss

Satomi Akesaka is walking away from music due to sudden hearing loss. It’s not all sad news, because she will continue her voice acting career.

Satomi Akesaka

Akesaka’s hearing loss is due to performing as Rinko Shirokane in the BanG Dream! franchise. The character is a soft-spoken pianist for the gothic-rock band Roselia. She’ll formally “graduate” from the role on September 17 during a fan event.

Akesaka is the second Roselia to leave the band. Yurika Endou, who voiced the bassist Lisa Imai, retired from the entertainment industry in May citing worsening health.

While you won’t be hearing Akesaka’s silky singing voice anymore, she’ll still be headling various other series. Her notable roles include Esdeath (Akame ga Kill!), Mari Kurokawa (GATE), Momoko Hyakushiki (Nanbaka), and Reina Suzuki (Wake Up, Girls!).

Majored in Music @Duke, but realized that being a Jazz singer wasn't a real job. Now I spend my days watching anime and writing about the music industry. Glad to be in the new round of GB hires. Look forward to my coverage.
