On the news of J.J Abrams liking AKB48 and John Boyega tweeting about Naruto, some fans commented that they wished there was a Star Wars anime.
Daicon IV Opening Animation
There's no official anime out but Paul Johnson, an independent animator, made a 7 minute short that fits in the Star Wars timeline and realistically shows a large-scale fight between the Rebel Alliance and the Galactic Empire. It's based on the Lucasarts' 1994 TIE Fighter game but takes it to the next level with it's animation.
As Johnson asked in the YouTube description: What if there was an Empire-focused short Star Wars animation, drawn with the crazy detail and shading of classic 80s anime that's all but vanished from Japan nowadays?
The style emulates the 1980's style of Gundam or Venus Wars. There are eye catches, bright flashes, and retro explosions. The short is a labor of love from Johnson who created it over 4 years, working on it mostly during weekends.
You can see the full bios of all the characters in this mediafire link from the team.
If you are less into big fights and more into humor/parody then this 54 second short will fill that hole in your heart.
It has the magical transformation that every other Star Wars film is lacking.
There's no official Star Wars anime but with new films on the horizon, they might pull a Matrix and release an anime anthology a la the Animatrix.
