A new, exciting Digimon film project has been announced — and it’s featuring adult characters!
Gekijou-ban Digimon Adventure (Digimon Adventure the Movie) is being produced to celebrate the franchise’s 20th anniversary. Even better is that it will feature the original cast as 20-year-olds.
Story details are under lock, but the staff shared the aged-up designs for Taichi Yagami and Yamato Ishida, both of whom are 22 for the film.
The project is reuniting the staff from the first Digimon Adventure anime. This means that Hiromi Seki is supervising, Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru is designing the cast, and Kenji Watanabe will design the monsters. Toei Animation is producing the art.
Digimon originally launched in 1997 as a mobile virtual pet game, similar to Tomogachi. The game inspired the 1999 Digimon Adventure anime, which features a group of friends being transported to a virtual world during summer camp. Digimon Adventure tri. follows that same group of friends as high schoolers.
