Netflix is Aiming to Become a Power Player in Anime Production!
Netflix announced their plans to form a “business alliance” with anime studios Production I.G. (which includes Wit Studio) and Bones in a move to bolster their anime lineup. This new deal will see Netflix co-producing anime as a production committee member instead of only purchasing licenses.
Netflix is currently co-producing B: The Beginning with Production I.G. and A.I.C.O. -Incarnation- with Bones. Past Netflix anime productions include Ajin: Demi-Human, Blame!, Fate/Apocrypha, and Devilman Crybaby.
Netflix’s plan, which is also part of their $8 billion “Originals” production budget, explicitly stats the alliance will be between them, Production I.G., Wit Studio, and Bones as a way to create “high-quality anime” for their members. It’s being touted as a “win-win-win” for anime creators, anime production, and Netflix members.
