Shinobu Ohtaka captivated readers with Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic, which is a fantasy series based on Arabian legends. Alladin, Alibaba, and Morgiana’s quest delighted fans and became an international best-seller.
Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic ended last October, and Ohtaka took a brief break to outline a new project. Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine has revealed the manga as Orient.
Orient will be a fantasy-adventure that takes place during Japan’s Warring States Period. The story will follow a 15-year-old boy named Musashi as stands up against the unnamed ruler of Japan. Kodansha will launch Orient on May 30th.
Orient will be Ohtaka’s fourth serialized manga. While she’s gained a following for Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic and Adventure of Sinbad, her debut was 2004’s Sumomomo Momomo: The Strongest Bride on Earth. All of Ohtaka’s manga has received anime adaptations.
