The results come from Kadokawa ASCII Research Laboratories, and they analyzed the number of tweets that included a series full title, popular abbreviations, and tags to determine the most popular series in Japan.

It’s not even a contest – Kemono Friends is the most popular anime in Japan this season! After poor initial reaction, the anime has blew up in terms of popularity, which many credit to its simple story and endearing characters.

The anime’s first episode has been watched on NicoNicoDouga over 2 million times, which is more than KonoSuba and Youjo Senki. In fact, stores had to stop accepting pre-orders for a guidebook that includes the shows first two episodes because there is too much demand!
