The community has been freaking out ever since they learned that J.J. Abrams (Star Trek / Star Wars: The Force Awakens / Super 8) will be producing a live-action remake of Your Name (Kimi no Na wa).
Despite Abrams being a talented director and producer, and with Toho’s full co-operation, fans have voiced their worry. Live-action adaptations of anime don’t have a great track-record, and many doubt Your Name will be an exception.

Hey, can we stop doing redundant remakes of extremely recent things because they weren't in English? https://t.co/oT8gBlsIR9

I wonder if J.J. ABRAMS can save Kemono Friends

If they're making Hollywood version of Your Name with J.J Abrams and doesn't make the setting to be in space then what's the point
— Kiku / キク (@invinciblekiku) September 28, 2017
So J.J. Abrams is making a live action hollywood version of the Japanese anime "Your Name", I am expecting lens flares.

"train to busan was lit lets remake"
"death note was lit lets remake"
"kimi no na wa was lit lets remake"

I don't think Kimi no na wa. works as a live-action film because, as ironic as it sounds, most of its charm is the photo-realistic animation
— The Gespenst (@TheGespenst) September 28, 2017
Sure, don't nominate Kimi no Na wa (Your Name) for an Oscar, but let's remake it in Hollywood. That'll work out /s https://t.co/8xDZ4CUgjk

JJ Abrams is making a live-action adaptation of the award-winning anime film Kimi No Na Wa (Your Name). I think I'm done with being alive?
— Ronnie (@RonnieFilyaw) September 28, 2017
Your Name will fail as a Hollywood live action. Without Shinkai's ethereal art it loses the charm, it'll be a watered down Hollywood romance
— Gigguk (@GiggukAZ) September 28, 2017
This whole "Your Name" live action business …
Stop undermining it.
— TBae (@Teh_Stof) September 28, 2017
im just gonna pretend jj abrams your name isnt happening and wont ever come to exist like what ppl do w the avatar movie
— LYN (@MAMETCHl) September 28, 2017
The saddest thing about them adapting Your Name is it's not even a particularly novel concept. It 100% succeeds on its perfect execution.
— Mary Cagle (@cubewatermelon) September 28, 2017
Setting your name in America is about as bad as doing that to grave of the fireflies. You can't remove that context
— Geoff Thew @Work (@G0ffThew) September 28, 2017
hey so i thought i was drunk enough to misread a your name remake but it's real and i suddenly wish i was drunker
— リクス @ mythic mess (@rixsig_writes) September 28, 2017
Since "Your Name" is apparently getting a Hollywood remake, I nominate Idris Elba to play Taki and for Mitsuha let's also get Idris Elba.
— E-Kon (@out_sall) September 28, 2017
Your Name doesn't need an American film adaptation when it's still brand new. Just cuz it's popular doesn't mean it needs to be westernized
— Ghassan Abunura (@StrawhatYoshi) September 28, 2017
Even if you despise the idea of an American live-action Your Name, please do NOT harass or send death threats to the people working on it.
— M M (@Mediamaster_127) September 28, 2017
tired: anime movie your name.
wired: hollywood adaptation of your name.
inspired: BOLLYWOOD ADAPTATION OF YOUR NAME.
— bitmap (@_bitmap) September 28, 2017
Your Name getting an American adaptation is great.
I mean, Dragonball wasn't popular until Evolution came out.
— Ryan (@Capakowski) September 28, 2017
Instead of making a live action Your Name, couldn't we just, like, bring it back to theaters and tell people about it
— Passion Harmony (@PassionTentacle) September 28, 2017
I can't wait to see Emma Stone and Ansel Elgort to portray star-crossed lovers Matilda and Tony in JJ Abrams' Your Name.
— wu-tang nyan (@magnificvlt) September 28, 2017
*insufferably* they already made american Your Name, it's called Freaky Friday
