A man from Fukuoka City was arrested for violating anti-stalkers laws due to staking out an idol’s home. The unnamed idol is an 18-year-old member of HKT48, which is a sister group of AKB48.
Fukuoka prefectural police said they arrested the man after receiving a call from the idol’s family. They claimed to have witnessed the 44-year-old taking a garbage bag from the idol’s residence on May 29, 2017. After an investigation, the police arrested the man, who confessed to driving around the perimeter of the idol’s home in hopes of meeting her.
The man also revealed that he’s attended HKT48 handshaking events for the past three years. After questioning, the idol revealed that she has seen the alleged stalker at a nearby train station multiple times in the past.
Police have been taking crime reports against idols more seriously in recent times following the non-fatal stabbing of idol Mayu Tomita, a non-fatal saw attack against two members of AKB48, and a death threat against Nana Mizuki.
