Mangaka Yuu’s husband shared some heartbreaking news with her fans on Twitter – she passed away this July while being treated for an unspecified illness.
He reported that Yuu had been in poor health since the end of May, but she was gradually improving from her illness. Yuu’s death, he added, was not directly linked to her illness.
Her husband continued to share thoughts about Yuu on her Twitter account. Yuu always loved drawing as a child, and her dream to become a mangaka came true in 2012 after she was asked to adapt Wolf Children. The manga proved to be popular and was nominated for an Eisner Award.
Yuu’s husband also relayed that she enjoying attending doujin events and interacting with fans, despite her poor health cutting into her schedule.
From 2014 to 2017, Yuu worked on Go-Jikan-me no Sensou (The Fifth-Period War). The story takes place during a five-year war against an unknown enemy. Every Friday at the fifth hour, scholars from the Aoshima island are selected to fight on the frontline on the mainland. The series ran for 27 chapters.
Yuu’s husband would end his Twitter thread by thanking all of her fans for making her dreams come true and for supporting her works. He that said even during tough times, Yuu would find courage and strength to draw from speaking with her fans.
