The ‘Vinland Saga’ Creator Accidentally Named the Anime’s Staff

In a now-deleted Tweet, Vinland Saga creator Makoto Yukimura accidentally spilled the beans on the upcoming anime adaptation. Note, the embedded Tweet only contains the cover the new volume.

Yukimura shared an image of the manga’s 21st volume, which will ship on August 23. It contained some details that the anime staff wasn’t ready to share, including a 2019 release window. Even more tantalizing is the production staff.

We know that Wit Studio (Attack on Titan The Ancient Magus’ Bride) is producing the animation, and it turns out that Shuhei Yabuta (Inuyashiki) is directing it. Character designer Takahiko Abiru (Hunter x Hunter key animation) and screenwriter Hiroshi Seko (Inuyashiki Attack on Titan) will be joining him.

Yukimura’s Viking epic has been a best-seller since it debuted in 2005. The series follows Thorfinn, who is the son of a great Viking warrior. When his father is killed by the mercenary leader Askeladd, which causes Thorfinn to seek vengeance by infiltrating the mercenary band. Before Thorfinn can challenge Askeladd to a dual, he finds himself pulled into a fierce war for England’s crown.

Vinland Saga

Vinland Saga has won praise for Yukimura’s intricate world-building, fleshed-out cast, historical accuracy, and its visceral violence.

  1. Nice, I read the manga in the past, and good to know it’s a capable studio adapting this. Need good animations for the invasion of England 🙂
