It feels like it was yesterday that fans were praising The Promised Neverland manga’s shocking debut chapter. Instead, fans are facing the ending.
Seriously, creators Kaiu Shirai and Posuka Demizu confirmed that The Promised Neverland is in its final arc.
The manga first debuted in August 2016, so it’s only a baby by Weekly Shonen Jump standards. The Promised Neverland is routinely a top-ten bestseller and an anime adaptation has just been announced — meaning the creative duo is ending the story on their terms instead of facing cancelation.
The Promised Neverland is a breath of fresh air in Weekly Shonen Jump‘s standard lineups of action, rom-coms, and teenage ecchi stories. It caters to young and mature readers with a story about young children discovering the horrors of the real world. The monsters and lite fantasy elements serve the themes of growing up and uncertainty well.
The anime adaptation will debut during the Winter 2019 season, and it’s to be seen if a full adaptation is in play.
