‘Shirobako’ is Getting a Sequel Anime Film from P.A. Works

P.A. Works announced that a Shirobako anime film is in production, but no release window has been set yet. The film was announced at a Shirobako fan event.

P.A. Works confirmed that much of the original staff will return, including director Tsutomu Mizushima, scriptwriter Michiko Yokote, character designer Ponkan8, animation character designer Kanami Sekiguchi, and production company Infinite. The voice cast was not revealed.

The Shirobako film will be a direct sequel to the anime series, which in October 2014. It follows five high school friends – Aoi Miyamori, Ema Yasuhara, Shizuka Sakaki, Misa Todou, and Midori Imai – who promise to create an anime together. Fast forward two-and-a-half years later, and they find themselves facing the harsh realities of the industry they love. All of the hard work and frustrations are draining, but they refuse to let their dream of producing an anime together die.

Shirobako won praise for its depiction of the anime industry, including the hard work all staff members put in and the office politics of getting a series produced.
