Talent agency Arts Vision said that Umehara will step away from voice acting until further notice to prioritize treatment and recovery. Arts Vision will announce when Umehara is healthy enough to return.

At 27-years of age, Umehara has become one of the most sought-after voice actors in the industry. The spring season alone features seven major roles for Umehara: Goro in DARLING in the FRANXX, Siegfried Kircheis in Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These, Hajime Suzamoto in Tada-kun Never Falls in Love, Izuru Minezawa in Caligula, Jay Yoon in Juushinki Pandora, Ken Wakashimazu in Captain Tsubasa, and Makoto Ninomiya in Amanchu! Advance.

Umehara future roles included The Goblin Slayer in Goblin Slayer, Daichi Kitaumegawa in Happy Sugar Life, and Hideo Torai in Planet With. None of the projects have announced replacements, and Arts Vision didn’t say if his currently airing roles have finished recording before he fell ill.

Umehara made his debut in 2014’s Orenchi no Furu Jijou and has quickly established a reputation as a leading-man in anime. We wish him a speedy recovery.
