Legendary Entertainment seems to have high hopes for Detective Pikachu because they are developing two more live-action Pokémon movies!
According to We Got This Covered, the studio and Warner Bros. have hopes to create a movie centered around Mewtwo and an adaptation of Pokémon Red/Blue. Their sources say that the projects are intended to be connected to Detective Pikachu in an attempt to kickstart a Pokémon cinematic universe.
It’s long been confirmed that Mewtwo will be the antagonist in Detective Pikachu, so his film may not be an adaptation of the first anime movie. We Got This Covered didn’t relay how the Pokémon Red/Blue film will take shape, given how the games don’t have much of a plot to work with. However, both movies will use similar tech that’s in Detective Pikachu, so it’ll at least look pretty.
Detective Pikachu is going to debut on May 10, so fans may want to stick around after the credits for a teaser stinger. Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment could also make a major announcement depending on early box office returns.
