Aoni Production, his former talent agency, revealed that he was receiving medical treatment but it failed to curb the cancer. Ishizuka’s family held a private wake and funeral, and a public farewell is currently being planned to celebrate his life.

Ishizuka’s first role was in 1986’s Giant Gorg as a narrator — a common role that his distinct voice was made for. Some of his narration roles include PokémonMacross Delta, Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online, and The Isle of Dogs.

However, Ishizuka left a lasting impact after voicing four iconic characters: Jet Black (Cowboy Bebop), Professor Oak (Pokémon), Mr. Satan (Dragon Ball Super), and Joseph Joestar (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders Diamond is Unbreakable).

Ishizuka’s final roles before his passing include Willibald Joachim von Merkatz (The Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These), Dino Golzine (Banana Fish), and Cain Ibrahim Hassan (Last Hope).
