Production I.G.’s long-awaiting Ultraman anime will debut on Netflix next spring. It will be a worldwide simultaneous release, just like Devilman Crybaby, so you won’t have to a few months after the Japanese debut.
Ultraman is an adaptation of Eiichi Shimizu and Tomohiro Shimoguchi’s manga of the same name. The manga is a direct sequel to the classic 1967 Ultraman TV show and follows Shin Hayata’s son. As an ordinary teen, Shinjiro was just trying to make it through high school life, but the “Ultraman Factor” awakens within him. Shinjiro must learn how to take up the Ultraman mantle to protect Earth from a new interstellar threat.
The Ultraman manga has been published on a monthly schedule since 2011. It has won praise for Shimoguchi’s crisp art and Shimizu’s mature take on the franchise. Production I.G’s 3D anime will look to live up to expectations.
