Madhouse-Produced “Overlord” 2nd Season Will air in January

The wait is almost over for Overlord fans! A tweet by the Yokohama Toranora bookshop revealed that Overlord Season 2 will premiere this January and it’s being produced by Madhouse.

Anime fans typically meme Madhouse’s lack of second seasons, so this should put some worries to bed. Season one aired back in the Summer 2015 season and ran for 13 episodes. It was hit in and outside of Japan.

Overlord is an isekai series that centers around Yggdrasil, a popular online game that is shutting down. Momonga logs-on for a final farewell with his former guildmates, but is depressed that many of them have continued on with their lives. After failing to log-out during the shutdown, he finds himself trapped in the game as his powerful avatar. The bizarre thing is that the NPCs (non-player characters) start to act and feel as if they are real. With no place in society, Momonga decides to rule over all of Yggdrasil.

Overlord Season 2 was first revealed in March 2017 during the series’ second compilation film.
