‘Kuroko’s Basketball’ Creator’s New Series is One Punch Man Meets Golf

People describe Kuroko’s Basketball (Kuroko no Basuke) as intense and “peak shounen” for its over-the-top action moves. The creator, Fujimaki Tadatoshi, has earned endless praise for his manga that spawned the anime series and movie adaptations. Fans have been waiting to see if the 34-year old author and artist would tackle another sport or jump into a totally new genre.

The wait is over with Robot x Laserbeam being released March 2017 and Tadatoshi has embraced another sport: Golf.

You may have noticed a familiar expression on the protagonist, Roboto or Robo for short.

Yes. I think he’s Saitama. And to be honest his skills are One Punch Man level. The crazy skill levels is another trademark of Tadatoshi-sensei who loves to have highly talented and stylized players. Although other fans and I are reminded of another popular sports protagonist too from Haikyuu!!.

I don’t want to spoil this series but if you’re a fan of Kuroko’s Basketball, I think you’d enjoy seeing all the crazy action you love but in a different sport. It’ll be interesting to watch how the rivalry that will develop without the “teammate” aspect of basketball. Admittedly there are many fewer fans of golf but I have the feeling that yaoi and shounen ai fans will really get behind this series for two reasons.

Before I spoil anything major, I’ll leave you with this single page that really reminds me of the cliffhangers that made Kuroko’s Basketball so hard to stop reading.
