Japan’s Top Cosplayer Shocks Fans With Her Monthly Salary

Uramaru is considered Japan’s most popular cosplayer.

She has a large social media follow and is a routine guest at various events.

Fans can visit Uramaru at Nagoya for her monthly photo-op sessions.

All of the attention led to an appearance on Abema TV’s “Kyuuyo Meisai” (Salary Statement) segment. The program delved into Uramaru’s salary, which may be shocking to some fans.

Uramaru takes home 300,000 yen ($2,700) during a typical month. Her income is fairly steady since she’s signed to a talent agency. Of course, the pay fluctuates depending on her schedule. It’s estimated that she earns 10,000 yen ($100) per minute during photo sessions, with an additional 1,000 yen ($10) for a double-take. For example, Uramaru earned 277,000 yen ($2,500) during the recording of the “Kyuuyo Meisai” segment.

Uramaru further explained that makes money from merchandise, radio appearances, and designing characters. After everything is done, she pockets 20-30% of her sales.

Abema TV learned that Uramaru lives a modest lifestyle that helps stretches her budget. Uramaru rents an 85,000 yen ($775) studio apartment in Tokyo and she typically survives off of cup ramen. Most of her wardrobe consists of costumes, but everything else is kept to a minimum.

I really like to look at the darker side of things, like a shadow following you at night...or maybe I'm just trying too hard? Anyways, Persona is my life!
