Attack on Titan is getting a Hollywood live-action movie from one of the industry’s hottest director.
Andy Muschietti, director of the record-breaking IT adapation, is helming the Attack on Titan film. Muschietti, who also directed Mama, has earned a reputation for character-driven horror punctuated with moments of intense violence. On paper, Attack on Titan can work with his style — just add giant monsters.
A pair of Japanese live-action adaptations of Attack on Titan premiered in 2015. Despite a critical flogging, they became box-office success in Japan.
Warner Bros. will fund the project, which will be produced by David Heyman (Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts franchises), Masi Oka (Death Note), and Andy’s sister Barbara Muschietti (IT and Mama).
Additional production details will be revealed at a later date. Director Muschietti is currently working on IT: Chapter 2, which will premiere on September 6, 2019.
