The Boogiepop and Others staff just shared their adaptation roadmap! Now, you no longer have to wonder which stories will be covered in the anime.
Boogiepop Returns: VS Imaginator is the anime’s newest arc, but you knew that if you watched this week’s episode. This is the second and third novels, which takes place a few years after the Manticore incident — which was the anime’s first arc. Without spoiling much, VS Imaginator introduces the Towa Organization and highlights their role in the world.
Boogiepop at Dawn, the sixth book, will follow. The staff is planning on airing this arc as a two-hour special, so you can enjoy it in one sitting! It’ll make up the anime’s 10th through 13th episodes, and will air on February 23rd.
Boogiepop Overdrive: The Piper (also known as Boogiepop Overdrive: The King of Distortion), the fifth book, will also be adapted. However, the staff didn’t say if it will serve as a bridge between VS Imaginator and Dawn.
18 episodes are planned for the series and since VS Imaginator is the largest arc, it should make up the bulk of the anime. Theoretically, VS Imaginator can make up episode 4 through 9. However, Madhouse could be content with three-episode arcs, allowing for an additional book. There are 22 novels after all!
The Boogiepop light novel series is a collection of supernatural-mystery stories that take place during various points of time. While each story focuses on a new cast of characters, Boogiepop and the Towa Organization serves as the lynchpin for each arc.
