‘Free!’ Anime is Getting an All-New Film in 2020

Kyoto Animation‘s love affair with the Free! franchise is continuing with an all-new that will debut in summer 2020 — just in time for the Tokyo Summer Olympics!

But first, compilation film will debut this July to “reconstruct” Free! Dive to the Future, which aired last July. The film will include footage of an “added episode.” Free! Dive to the Future, which stars the cast as college students, ended in September with a teaser stating “see you in 2020.”

Free! has been a lucrative franchise for KyoAni’s since they launched it in 2013. The series focuses on a group of boys aiming to become the best competitive swimmers, and that spirit intertwines their lives throughout the years. It’s also notable for being KyoAni’s longest-running anime, having three seasons and four films.
