Another Veteran Anime Studio Has Gone Bankrupt

Most fans have probably never heard of drop until now, but they have been around since 2004 and have worked on hundreds of anime.

Tokyo Shoko Research, a credit reporting agency, has revealed that animation studio drop is bankrupt.

Most fans have probably never heard of drop until now, but they have been around since 2004 and have worked on hundreds of anime. The studio specialized in in-between animation, finish animation, key animation, and photography. Basically, they were important in making sure an anime moved fluidly and looked consistent.

Their work can be seen in:

And many, many others…

The studio also animated commercials for SUNTORY and Nissin, and even produced music videos for GReeeeN and Perfume.

However, despite another record year of industry profits, smaller studios are being forced to scale down or declare bankruptcy. In 2017, a record 8 studios went out of business — most of them being support studios like drop.

Drop most recently worked on 2017’s Glamorous Heroes and Lights of Clione. After a poor round of fundraising, they decided to close their doors. They had 30 employees at the time of bankruptcy.
