The Eccentric Family has a cast of bizarre characters from three different races; humans, tanuki (shape shifting raccoon-dogs), and tengu (goblins) that try co-exist and try to live in peace. The series is home to beautiful background art and smooth animation from P.A. Works.

Yozakura Quartet was created by the Durarara!! illustrator, so you know it’s going to look stylish. The story centers around a group of teens with superpowers and they protect the city of Sakurashin from yokai.
7The Tatami Galaxy
You might need to watch The Tatami Galaxy a couple of times to appreciate the amount of detail that went into the animation. The series uses different animation techniques to highlight the main character’s mental state as he juggles college and romance.

Blast of Tempest is a unique take on Shakespeare’s Hamlet and The Tempest plays. The story centers around retribution and is filled with twists that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
9Record of Lodoss War
Record of Lodoss War is a fantasy epic from the ’90s and features some of the best animation from the era. The story centers around a group of warriors trying to prevent war from breaking out through various kingdoms. Record of Lodoss War was popular in its time, but newer fans have a tendency to pass it over due to it’s older art style. It’s as close to a Lord of the Rings anime as you’re going to get.
