Despite the inn’s popularity with anime fans and it’s historical value, it’s been announced that Shidekaku Inn will be closing its doors. March 17 will be the final day of operations and reservations will be accepted until that time.
The entirety of Kanazawa is represented in 2011’s hit series Hanasaku Iroha, which features a city girl moving in with her hard-nosed grandmother and is asked to work at a Taisho-era hot springs inn. Anime fans flock to Kanazawa every October for the Bonbori Festival, which is a fictional-turned-reality celebration shown in the anime.
Shidekaku Inn maybe closing, but it’s doubtful the ancient local will be torn down. While no official word has been given, it’s likely to be turned into a museum in the future.
