We are less than a month away from Persona 5 releasing in the EU and NA, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was released with the Nintendo Switch at the beginning of this month. It feels like 2017 is already packed with great games, so I wanted to share the games that I had the chance to play so far and the ones I am looking forward to.
Fate/EXTELLA: The Umbral Star
A Fate game with the Dynasty Warriors formula. I wasn’t sure what to expect here, but just knowing that there were new servants was worth the go. There is a story mode reminiscent of visual novels with Warriors gameplay in between each section. I haven’t got a chance to clear all of it yet with all the great games coming out, but loving it so far.
Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8
Having played the 3DS game that comes with the collection, what I was mostly interested in was Kingdom Hearts 0.2: Birth by Sleep and Kingdom Hears X Back Cover. Both were short yet very enjoyable and made me more hype for Kingdom Hearts 3. It does feel like paying the full price is too much if you are not considering to replay the HD version of the 3DS game, but if you haven’t then it’s worth it.
Digimon World: Next Order
After Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth last year and replaying the original Digimon World on PS1, this game felt great. It is a bit grindy if played on the normal difficulty, but if you loved the original, I think you will like it more that way.
As a Soulsborne fan, Nioh was a must try for me, and after playing the beta before release, I knew I had to get it. The game had enough unique aspects to it to be very different from the Souls serries while keeping the difficulty that some of us want. Some might say the story was cliche, but I loved each part of it and I am looking forward to the DLC’s.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
I remember thinking I would have to wait before getting the chance to play this game since I wasn’t ready to get a Nintendo Switch, until a friend reminded me it was also on the Wii U. My Wii U was delighted that I cleaned the dust off and got her (it’s a her) fired up again. This game is also where I met my waifu Mipha!
I only got to try the demo so far, and still hesitant to pick this up right away with Persona 5 right around the corner, but with all the fan art and the amazing character design, this is one of the games I am looking forward to picking up soon.
I can’t wait for the release of this game. I have stayed clear from any spoilers so far, and am looking forward to what this game will add compared to the previous titles of the series. I still remember the psychology classes in Persona 4 Golden and hope there will be more of that.
To sum it up, half the year hasn’t even passed yet and there have been so many great games localized from Japan, which is making this year very exciting for an otaku gamer as myself. What games have you guys been enjoying this year and what are the games you are the most hype for?
