The official website for Children of Whales (Kujira no Kora wa Sajou ni Utau) began streaming a new trailer! They also announced that Netflix will stream the series worldwide.

Children of Whales

Children of Whales is a popular shoujo manga that takes place in a sand-covered world. Chakuro and his friends live on a floating island called the Mud Whale. It’s a semi-utopian society where 90% of the inhabitants have special powers called saimia. The only issue is that the powers cause all of the users an early death.

To make things stranger, all of the other floating islands that the Mud Whale has come across are uninhabited. Chakuro worries that something could have happened to the humans, until one day they stumble across an island as large as the Mud Whale. To his surprise, a girl has been living there.

The story is a lore heavy sci-fi mystery, which will appeal to non-shoujo fans. Also reassuring to fans is that it’s being directed by Kyōhei Ishiguro, who is known for directing Your Lie in April. Here is the anime’s main staff:

Children of Whales was created by Abi Umeda and began publication in 2013. The series won the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize’s Special Prize in 2017.
