The latest issue of Newtype magazine revealed that a Saga of Tanya the Evil (Youjo Senki) movie is being produced. According to director Yutaka Uemura, it will be a recap movie based on the anime’s events.
While hardcore fans may be disappointed, recap movies don’t spell doom for a series. In fact, many recap films lead to a sequel announcement, with Overlord being the latest example. You can check out this nifty chart that shows recent recap movies and their follow-up announcements.
Youjo Senki is based on a popular isekai war-drama light novel series. The story features a greedy salaryman reincarnated as a magic-wielding girl named Tanya. This reincarnation is a form of punishment by Being X to teach Tanya humility through the horrors of war – too bad Tanya is as evil as ever and is determined to destroy Being X.
A 12-episode adaptation was produced by NUT, a new anime studio founded by former Madhouse staff.
More details about the Youjo Senki movie will be shared at a later date.
