With the Winter 2017 season halfway over, I think it’s time to look at some of the worst series so far. Hey, not everything can be as good as ACCA or KonoSuba Season 2. However, let’s not be hipsters and label Masamune-kun’s Revenge or Youjo Senki as terrible (though they are bland).
Here are the absolute worst Winter 2017 anime. And may you have strength to persist if you choose to watch these.
This right here…I don’t know why it’s happening. Okay, I do (it’s otaku pandering), but it’s so lazy.
One Room is a series of shorts about three sisters chilling in “your” room. That’s it. Other shows like this have been made, like Sleeping with Hinako and Makura no Danshi, which try to recreate the thrill of intimacy but with anime characters.
Crazy ideas can turn out great (Kill la Kill) or fail miserably. Too bad Idol Incidents is a fail.
It’s about idols running the government because people are fed up with politicians. Now that is timely sentiment! Too bad the anime doesn’t do much with it and settles for being a below-average idol series. The songs are generic, the dance choreography is stilted, and the jokes are stale.
3Minami Kamakura High School Girls Cycling Club
This is the third cycling anime in two seasons, and it has to compete against Yowamushi Pedal: New Generation.
It’s really just a cute girl version of Yowamushi Pedal, but manages to be a lot worse than last season’s Long Riders (which biggest flaw was constant episode delays). Minami just feels like a filler series with no purpose at all. The only good thing about it is that the background art looks really good.
2Schoolgirl Strikers: Animation Channel
Another season, another bad game adaptation.
Schoolgirl Strikers: Animation Channel checks the boxes in the “generic anime rule book” – different dere types, bland alien enemies, parallel worlds, and non-sexy fanservice. Wrap this up in a lazily animated package, and you have a bland work of art!
I’m so sorry GoHands, but this is ridiculous. The studio has always valued style over substance, but they went overboard trying to create something stylish with this.
Hand Shakers has an obsession for a kinetic camera style, which does not give scenes time to breath. Add in fish eye lenses (why are these a thing?), terrible filter schemes, and horrid CGI elements. I don’t think fans of the canceled Double Arts manga would enjoy it, since Hand Shakers steals the basic plot idea from it.
What do you think are the worst Winter 2017 anime?
