Step-Sibling Romance ‘Domestic Girlfriend’ Gets an Anime

Diomedéa (Aho GirlFuuka) is adapting Kei Sasuga’s Domestic Girlfriend (Domestic na Kanojo) into an anime.

Domestic Girlfriend is a throwback to the “step-sibling love triangle” genre of the early 2000s. It follows Natsuo, a high schooler with a massive crush on an easy going teacher named Hina. After feeling down, Natsuo loses his virginity to Rui, who is a classmate that is doubtful of love. Due to a series of events, Natsuo’s father reveals that he is marrying Hina and that Rui is Natsuo’s new step-sister.

Diomedéa announced that Maaya Uchida (Rikka Takanashi in Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions) is voicing Rui and Youko Hikasa (Kyoko Kirigiri in Danganronpa) is voicing Hina. The production staff includes director Shouta Ihata (Girlish Number), screenwriter Tatsuya Takahashi (Beatless), and character designer Naomi Ide (KanColle).

Sasuga launched Domestic Girlfriend in April 2014 and it has enjoyed international success – there are 3 million copies in print and it’s available on legal digital sites. Additional news about the adaptation will be shared at a later time.
