Sports Mangaka Are Honoring Paralympic Athletes in New Project

Shueisha’s Weekly Young Jump and Sportiva are teaming up to create inspirational stories about Paralympic athletes. The stories are going to be published in Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Jump vol. 1 ~Paralympic Jump vol. 1~.

The magazine-book hybrid will focus on Paralympic sports like wheelchair basketball and wheelchair tennis, which will be played at the 2020 Paralympic Games in Tokyo.

Tetsuya Saruwatari (Tough Riki-Oh) is writing a story inspired by visually disabled Paralympic Judo practitioner Satoshi Fujimoto, which is tentatively titled Tough Bangai-hen ~Yawa no Shou~.Tough Bangai-hen ~Yawa no Shou~

 

Masahiko Aoki (Orange Star) is creating a short manga about wheelchair tennis star Yui Kamiji, which is tentatively titled Kamiji! ~Kamiji Yui Story~.Kamiji! ~Kamiji Yui Story~

Youichi Takahashi (Captain Tsubasa) will write a feature about a blind soccer player, but details haven’t been revealed. The magazine-book hybrid will also feature interviews and gravure photos of real-world parathletes. Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Jump vol. 1 will ship on November 29, 2017.
