The series on hiatus following Watsuki’s November arrest, in which he admitted to owning over 100 DVDs and liking, “girls in late elementary school to around their second-year of middle school.” He was fined 200,000 yen ($1,900) in February for the charges.

Shueisha announced that Watsuki is “living a life of reflection and atonement” following the charges and that the decision to resume publishing Rurouni Kenshin: Hokkaido Arc was to “answer the desire of fans” out of a sense of duty.
