Good news for all you retro gamers out there! The Neo Geo X portable console finally has a price tag on it. SNK Playmore, the company responsible for the Neo Geo franchise, announced the portable console in January 2012, and later confirmed it in March. It’s been a whopping 13 years since we last saw a Neo Geo branded console, and that was the Neo Geo Pocket Color in 1999. Originally the console was reported to cost $800, but it was later officially priced at $200 which puts it in direct competition with the Nintendo 3DS and the PS Vita.
The device is slated to include a 4.3-inch LCD screen, SD card slot, A/V output, internal stereo speakers and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
The console will also come with 20 preloaded games including titles from signature SNK series such as Metal Slug, Fatal Fury, and The King of Fighters. The system will be released on December 6th, 2012, as part of the "Neo Geo X Gold" package, which includes the Neo Geo X Station, a replica of the original Neo Geo AES console that can be used as a charging/docking station with its own A/V out and a functioning replica of the original AES joystick controller. The Neo Geo X Station also has HDMI out capability so you can transfer the video to an HDTV and enjoy the games on a bigger screen. The system will be distributed by Tommo Inc. in North America and Blaze Europe in Europe. As an avid fan of retro gaming, I'll be on the lookout for this!
