Many early and late 90’s anime and manga have recently been given the remake treatment or otherwise revitalized. Growing up in the 90’s, one of the more unique manga I read was Devilman, and now it’s getting its own revamped series. Go Nagai, the mangaka responsible for cult classics such as Mazinger Z, Getter Robo and Cutey Honey, is now working on a spinoff manga series titled Sirene-chan.
The new manga will revolve around Sirene, who is supposed to be a cute school girl that has a problem - she’s a harpy! Sirene is a harpy demon that appeared both in the animated Devilman series and in the manga. She is also Amon’s (the main character) lover in the series and manga, and creates many conflicts when she gets jealous. I don’t really know how I feel about this because the original manga was violent and gruesome, I feel like he's trying to get new fans by joining the moe crowd. Oh well hopefully he’ll make it interesting!
