You’ll soon be able to trade Pokémon in Pokémon GO. The franchise’s cornerstone feature has been missing from the mobile game since 2016.
Niantic revealed a trading, friends, and gifting features at E3. The friends feature will be added this week, with the other two coming “soon.”
Players will be able to add Friends via Trainer Codes, and there will be four friendship levels. New features and bonuses will be granted based on your friendship, which will increase as you send or receive gifts, trades, and battles with your friends.
Gifting will be key to increasing your friendship level. You’ll be able to send gifts from PokéStops or Gyms, which will include virtual postcards and items – including special eggs that hatch into Alolan Pokémon.
Finally, the most anticipated feature is trading. You’ll only be able to trade with friends and both players need to be at least level 10 and within 100 meters from each other. Trades will require Stardust, with the amount decreasing based on your friendship level. Legendary Pokémon, Shiny Pokémon, and undiscovered Pokémon will require a Special Trade – which is limited to one a day.
If you meet the requirements for a trade, both parties will receive Candy, with the amount being based on the distance of the Pokémon that were caught. The HP and CP of the traded Pokémon will be reset, and your friendship level will determine the traded Pokémon’s growth bonuses.
