This year is anime’s centennial anniversary! The industry has been celebrating 100 years of anime dating back to 1917, which is viewed as the birth of Japan’s TV animation industry.
The Association of Japanese Animations (AJA) put together a 15-minute music video showcasing past and present anime – including the medium’s stop-motion origins! 23 different musical acts sang the video’s song, “Tsubasa wo Motsu Mono ~Not an angel Just a dream~”. Some of the artists include JAM Project, Isao Sasaki, and Wake Up, Girls!
Since AJA had to condense 100 years of history into a 15-minute video, some fan-favorite works had to excluded for sake of length. Surprisingly, no Studio Ghibli or Studio Gainax anime are in the video, which may have been due to licensing. Some of the anime that appears include:
Kimba the White Lion
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable
