Japanese music publisher Exit Tunes launched a new Kickstarter campaign for Under the Dog. The project is seeking to raise $50,000 to create a live-action short, a music video, and a special release of the first anime short.
Exit Tunes teases that the Kickstarter’s success is the next step towards an Under the Dog TV anime series.
If the Kickstarter is successful, the Overture to Under the Dog live-action short will be released as a companion piece to the first anime. Asami Seto will reprise her role as Anthea to provide “personal monologues” to deepen the short. Atsushi Isoyama (Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusion) would direct.
A new theme song and music video would also be produced. Exit Tunes would enlist the team that worked on the end theme for K-On! and have Seto sing the lyrics.
Exit Tunes is aiming to have the live-action short and music video produced in time to accompany special theatrical screenings of the Under the Dog short. The special edition is adding an extra 24-minutes to the original 30-minute anime, and will screen between January 2018 and April 2018.
Under the Dog is a sci-fi thriller that takes place in Neo Tokyo. To combat threats, the United Nations forces teenagers with special powers to fight terrorists and other threats. If any of the teens fail, they and their families will be killed with a bomb implanted in their heads. The short follows Anthea, a Swedish girl trying to discover her true identity.
