17 Anime So Disturbing You'll Regret Watching Them

Anime is not just moe school girls and sexy harems. Sure, that's the popular stuff, but there is a seedy underworld, and I'm not talking about hentai. These 17 anime series are so disturbing, that you might want to bathe your brain in bleach after watching them.

1. Youjuu Toshi

Peace between Earth and the Black World after a century year old pact must be renewed. From the director of Ninja Scroll, the OVA is packed with graphic gore, nudity, and a few rape scenes.

2. Cat Soup

Nyatto is on a quest to save his brain-dead sister's soul from Death. An acid trip on par with Eraserhead, you will be rocking in a corner once the 30 minute short is over.

3. Genocyber

Genocyber is not for the weak of heart. Featuring graphic disembowelments, children being shot to shreds, and sadistic characters enjoying every bit of violence they inflict, you might have trouble finishing the 3 part OVA series.

4. Midori: Shoujo Tsubaki

Created as a one man project, the story follows a young girl who joins a freak show after her mother dies. Originally banned in Japan, portions of the movie were seized and destroyed.

5. Higurashi: No Naku Koro Ni

Maebara Keiichi moves to a quiet town, only to discover that it is hiding a terrible secret. The disjointed story will keep you on edge, if you can stomach the torture sequences and scenes of children being killed.

6. Kuttsukiboshi

Aaya is a transfer student that wants to help Kiiko control her telepathic powers, and they quickly form feeling for each other. What sets Kuttsukiboshi apart from every other yuri is the incest, casual rape, and semi-graphic sex scenes. No, it's not a hentai. Yes, the two rape each other over everything, even as an apology.

7. Rin: Daughters of Mnemosyne

A horror-mystery series staring an immortal detective that spans 65 years. The interesting concepts Rin: Daughters of Mnemosyne has is lost when the series dives into torture porn territory.

8. Violence Jack

With a title like Violence Jack, it shouldn't be a surprise that the OVA series is filled with graphic, over the top violence and erotic material.

9. Mardock Scramble

Rune is a 15 year old prostitute, who is taken advantage of and brutally killed by the man that took her in. Featuring slick animation and a great psychological theme, people will be disturbed by the nudity, gore, and sex scenes.

10. Denpa Teki na Kanojo

Juuzawa Juu is a typical delinquent that wants to be left alone. Unfortunately he has a talent for attracting unstable women. A disturbing psychological mystery, the series will stick with you long after it ends.

11. Kago Shintaro Anime Sakuhin Shuu

Shintaro Kago is a world renowned guro artist, and is a fan of the unconventional. The 17 shorts he created are twisted, yet funny, but are not for the easily offended.

12. Gantz

Gantz is a deceiving series. On the surface, it's just gore, rape, and non-stop violence. But beneath the surface lies a series that touches on human nature and shows just how ugly society can be.

13. Elfen Lied

Elfen Lied can be looked at as a right of passage. If you can survive the first 9 minutes of the first episode, you can survive through most of the anime on this list.

14. Shigurui

During the early Edo period, Tokugawa Tadanaga calls for a tournament where steel swords are used instead of the traditional bokken. Most works romanticize the Edo period as a peaceful, elegant time (which it was), but Shigurui shows just how brutal it could have been as well.

15. Corpse Party: Tortured Souls

One of the most common complaints about modern anime is how tone downed it is compared to works from the '90s to '80s. Corpse Party enjoys showing the often gory suffering of the teenage students stuck in Heavenly Host Academy, and only those with the strongest stomachs should apply.

16. Gyo

Not as disturbing as the manga, the Gyo OVA gets the job done when you want to unsettle one of your friends.

17. Clannad

Clannad will rip out your heart and swallow your soul.
