Wit Studio is preparing to return to their original series Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress (Koutetsujo no Kabaneri) with a sequel film.
Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress: Unato Decisive Battle (Koutetsujo no Kabaneri: Unato Kessen) will take place six months after anime series. Director Tetsuro Araki is returning to lead the project and said the movie isn’t a spinoff or side-story. The anime’s official website is also teasing that the movie is “the middle volume” of the saga’s story. A release window has not been revealed.
The original series aired during the spring 2016 season and it reunited Wit Studio’s Attack on Titan team with director Araki. Other big name staff members included scriptwriter Ichiro Okouchi (Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion), character designer Haruhiko Mikimoto (Super Dimension Fortress Macross), and music composer Hiroyuki Sawano (Attack on Titan).
Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress is a survival-steampunk series that takes place on the island nation of Hinomoto. Humans are forced to live fortress called Stations and heavily armored trains to deliver supplies or reinforcements. Zombie-like creatures called Kabane feast on human flesh, and anyone bitten is turned into one of them.
Two compilation films with “additional and enhanced scenes” were produced in 2016 and 2017. DMM Games is also producing a PC browser and smartphone game, which will feature an animated opening by Wit Studio.
