So, today (2nd of May) is the day that it’s 19 years ago that Hide, guitarist from X Japan, passed away.
If you don’t know, X Japan is a Visual Kei band and one of the, if not the most, successful Japanese bands, inspiring a lot of fans and artists.
In 1997 they disbanded (they’re back together now) and Hide started a solo project called Hide with Spread Beaver.
But on the 2nd May on 1998, when he was 33, Hide was found in his apartment, with a towel around his neck tied to a doorknob. He was taken to the hospital but was pronounced dead there.
His funeral was attended by more than 70,000 people, and still today, a lot of fans and others still pay their respect to him. On the 2008 Live of the Art of Live, Hide was there as well, performing as a hologram.
Call me overdramatic, but X Japan and mainly Hide still are one of mine and others biggest inspirations.
Rest In Peace, Hide.
