Visual novel developer Key is known for bringing gamers and anime fans to tears. The studio is behind emotional hits like Kanon, Clannad, Little Busters!, and Angel Beats! – which are all considered true tear jerkers!
Their parent company, VisualArt’s, is now teasing that their latest story is a multimedia project. Summer Pockets was first announced in 2016, and Dengeki G’s Magazine just revealed that the visual novel is being released on June 29, 2018.
On top of the release date, VisualArt’s representative director Takahiro Baba bluntly said that Summer Pockets will, “captivate you with various worldviews through the visual novel, anime, smartphone, and music.”
Summer Pockets is billed as a “nostalgic summer” tale that takes place on a rural island called Torishirojima. Hairi Takahara uses his grandmother’s death as an excuse to move to the island as a way to escape from an unsettling incident. Once there, Hairi meets four different girls – Shiroha Naruse, who forgot her summer vacation; Ao Sorakado, who is looking for legends; Kamome Kushima, who is searching for a pirate ship; and Tsumugi Wenders, who is searching for herself.
Jun Maeda, who wrote the scenarios for Clannad and Angel Beats!, created the original concept during an in-house competition. According to an interview, Maeda’s submission was the only story to make staff members cry.
Na-Ga (Angel Beats! / Little Busters!), Tsubasu Izumi (Mashiroiro Symphony – The color of lovers), and Yunon Nagayama (Angel Beats!) designed the cast and world. Yu Nijima (Majo Koi Nikki), Kai (Clannad), and Hasama (Tokyo Babel) are writing story scenarios based on Maeda’s concept. Maeda is also co-composing the soundtrack with Shinji Orito (Angel Beats! Harmonia), Donmaru (Little Busters!), and Tomohiro Takeshita (planetarian).
