A 10-hour Tokyo to Los Angeles flight faced a more than 90-minute delay due to a drunken American passenger starting a fist fight on an All Nippon Airways flight. The incident was captured on video by Corey Hour, an Arizona-based cinematographer.
The man wearing the red Hawaiian shirt, whose name was not released, was heard shouting “I will kill you” while assaulting a passenger wearing a black shirt. ANA staff attempted to break up the fight and escorted the Hawaiian shirt man to another section of the plane. The staff’s attempts to diffuse the situation broke down as the Hawaiian shirt man returned to continue fighting.
According to Hour in an interview with CNN, “No one provoked him. He was cool up until a few minutes before he started hitting the guy. He started verbally abusing and intimidating people. Nothing triggered him. It just happened.”
Hour commented that the staff did the best they could to diffuse the situation. The man was later detained and removed from the flight by Japanese police. According to police, the man was arrested for injuring an ANA official and not for the onboard fight.
