Hollywood’s ‘Tiger & Bunny’ Live-Action Moves Forward with Young Producers

Bandai Namco is teaming up with Global Road Entertainment, Weed Road Entertainment, and Imagine Entertainment to co-produce a live-action film based on Tiger & Bunny.

The announcement was made Lynn Harris, Global Road’s president of worldwide production. Tiger & Bunny will be the studio’s first new U.S. film project since forming last year. Global Road is a rebrand of the Chinese backed Tang Media, which was an upstart company formed in 2015 to bridge Chinese and Hollywood-produced projects.

Bandai Namco’ Masayuki Ozaki (Tiger & Bunny), Imagine’s Ron Howard (Cinderella Man Solo: A Star Wars Story), Brian Grazer (Apollo 13 A Beautiful Mind) and Erica Huggins (In the Heart of the Sea), and Weed Road’s Akiva Goldsman (The Dark Tower) will produce the film. Ellen Shanman (Everything Nice) is writing the script.

Tiger & Bunny first aired in 2011 and became a phenomenon in Japan, topping NHK’s massive “Best Anime of All-Time” survey and spawned two theatrical anime films. Sunrise animated the 25-episode anime series and two theatrical films.

Harris said, “Mr. Ozaki and his team’s globally recognized story and beloved characters provide us with the potential to not only produce a feature film that will appeal to the masses, but also generate a fully developed franchise across the theatrical, television and digital entertainment spaces.”

“We are truly honored to be able to create the future with our collaborative partner whom we wholeheartedly trust,” commented Ozaki. “We are determined to live up to our supporters’ and fans’ expectations and bring this exciting project to life.”

Tiger & Bunny

Tiger & Bunny is set in the near-future where corporate-sponsored superheroes fight crime on the “Hero TV” reality show. Tiger is a charismatic hero, but his ratings have been falling due to his old-school approach. His sponsors pitch a last-ditch gimmick to partner him up with Bunny, an upcoming hero that is popular with the younger generation. While their personalities and styles clash, they must join forces to stop a super-powered terrorist.

Most details on Tiger & Bunny will be shared at a later time.
