Anime music composer Yuushi Matsuyama (birth name Shigeru Matsuyama) passed away due to burns from a house fire.
Matsuyama’s two-story home caught fire on April 7 and was largely contained to a second room floor. He was rescued from the burning room but was pronounced dead upon arriving at the hospital. Matsuyama was 79-years-old.
Matsuyama is known for composing the soundtrack and theme songs for Mobile Suit Gundam, which held it’s 38th anniversary on April 7. He also composed the soundtrack for Mobile Suit Gundam – The Movie Trilogy and insert songs for Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin.
Other anime that Matsuyama worked on include Alps no Shoujo Heidi, Majokko Megu-chan, and Muteki Koujin Daitarn 3.
Matsuyama left an undeniable impact on the anime industry with his work on Mobile Suit Gundam and we wish the best for his family and friends during this tragic time.
