Earlier in June, Nissin impressed the community with a beautiful short anime ad showcasing older characters from Kiki’s Delivery Service.

Kiki's Delivery Service

They are back with another dose of nostalgic magic with a new ad featuring the cast of Heidi, Girl of the Alps (Alps no Shoujo). The original 1974 anime was directed by future Studio Ghibli alum Isao Takahata (Grave of the Fireflies) and is an adaptation of Johanna Spyri’s classic children’s novel.

The series, which is about the titular orphan and her bitter grandfather living in the Swiss Alps, remains popular in Japan and Europe.

While the anime’s cast are children living in the Swiss Alps, the Nissin ad turns them into modern Japanese high schoolers. To a look at the aged-up cast:

She is embarking on a modeling career and wins the admiration of fans due to her elegant nature.

Clara seems to have gotten over her vague childhood disease that left her unable to walk.

The ad packs the emotional punch of a coming-of-age story into a bite-sized short. What classic anime do you think Nissin should tackle next?

I love all things that are cute, magic-based, and easy going! My biggest obsessions of all time are Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches and Fairy Tail. Let's go shipping!
