Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid aired 13 years ago, leaving fans dangling on a cliffhanger. Their patience has been rewarded with the debut of Full Metal Panic! Invisible Victory, which picks up directly after the events of The Second Raid.
Studio Xebec is gambling by dropping fans into the middle of the action without a quick recap, but I guess that’s what the new compilation films are for. The basics of the series revolve around Mithril agent Sousuke and high school student Chidori. Despite lacking proper social skills, Sousuke is assigned to protect Chidori since she possesses latent knowledge related to powerful tech. Chidori becomes a desirable asset and is targeted by different groups.
Despite the “in medias res” style, fans are sharing their love for Invisible Victory and the rush of nostalgia it has been giving them. Here’s what the community is saying on social media:
Super impressed at how unapologetic Full Metal Panic Invisible Victory is in its first episode. You basically need to have watched the first season & Second Raid to understand it since it spends almost no time trying to catch anyone up & it's a direct continuation from second 1. pic.twitter.com/V40cCn3t8U

BTW the new Full Metal Panic really is a continuation of the story and does nothing to catch you up if you have not seen any of the other shows. Kinda crazy for a show that has had a 12 year gap between the last season.

Hero Academia: "It's been three whole months, better air a recap!"
Full Metal Panic: "Eh, it's only been a little over a decade. You'll be fine."

The gang is back! Full Metal Panic baby! I've waited 13 years for this. It's been so long yet this episode brought back the feel of the series like it was yesterday. First episode was straight to the point. #FullMetalPanicInvisibleVictory #FullMetalPanic #anime #otaku #mecha pic.twitter.com/nqtrWqwJFN

In case anyone is planning on seeing this season of Full Metal Panic, you better watch/rewatch the earlier seasons, because the first episode of this season jumps right in assuming you remember everything before (XEBEC did the same thing with Fafner Exodus, so it's no surprise).
